GMHM on expedition to Campos de Hielo: 600 km of commitment in Patagonia
The Groupe Militaire de Haute Montagne (GMHM) is an elite unit of the French Army, specializing in expeditions in extreme environments. Their mission: to push the limits of exploration in high-altitude and polar regions, developing and passing on unique skills for operating in the most hostile environments on the planet. Among their most remarkable achievements is the crossing of the Campos de Hielo Sur in Patagonia — a true feat. This vast glacial region, one of the largest outside the polar areas, stretches over 350 kilometers, with harsh, unpredictable weather and a daunting, rugged landscape.
A Packraft Custom-Designed for the Extreme
To meet the demands of this extraordinary expedition, we co-developed a packraft fully adapted to the needs of the GMHM. Compact, ultra-durable, and easy to transport over long distances, this packraft allowed them to cross otherwise inaccessible areas, navigate glacial rivers, and ensure their safety in aquatic environments. This technical partnership highlights both the ability to innovate under extreme field conditions and the crucial importance of reliable equipment for expeditions of this scale.
